Photo Album: Activating an Improperly Installed Passive Radon System; Cary NC

When elevated radon levels were found in this home, the homeowner contacted Triangle Radon Defense to evaluate the existing passive radon system. Although a passive vent pipe had already been installed, our inspection revealed that the system was incomplete and unable to effectively reduce radon levels. The vent pipe terminated in the attic instead of extending through the roof, and no suction pit had been created beneath the slab to collect soil gases. Our team corrected these deficiencies by excavating a suction pit beneath the foundation, installing a properly sized radon fan, and extending the vent pipe through the roof to safely discharge radon gas above the home. These improvements transformed the existing passive system into a fully functional active radon mitigation system.   By building on the existing infrastructure while correcting the original design, we were able to provide the homeowner with an effective long-term solution for reducing radon levels and improving indoor air quality.
