Accurate Radon Testing & Effective Mitigation

Understanding your radon levels is the first step toward protecting your home. That’s why we use continuous radon monitoring for a minimum of 48 hours. If results exceed the EPA’s recommended 4.0 pCi/L threshold, we’ll install a custom radon mitigation system to reduce those levels quickly and safely.

Our radon mitigation process includes:

  • Placing a continuous radon monitor and assessing your home’s layout and soil contact
  • Installing a sub-slab depressurization system to redirect radon gas
  • Sealing foundation cracks and other openings to reduce radon entry
  • Installing or replacing an exhaust fan system, typically vented through the attic or exterior
  • Re-testing within 30 days to confirm levels have dropped into a safe range

We offer free estimates and radon testing services across North Carolina, including Chapel Hill and surrounding communities.

Indoor Air Quality & Moisture Control Solutions

Radon isn’t the only threat to indoor health. Triangle Radon Defense also offers a range of solutions to reduce allergens, airborne pollutants, and excess humidity. We install advanced systems such as:

  • Breathe EZ Air Cleaner
  • Breathe EZ UVC Light
  • Dehumidifiers, including SaniDry™ systems

Job Stories From Chapel Hill, NC
Radon Mitigation for a Basement & Crawl Space Home

This homeowner contacted Triangle Radon Defense after testing showed an elevated radon level of 6.0 pCi/L.

The home had a combination foundation with both a basement and an encapsulated crawl space. Because these two areas required separate depressurization, we designed a system with two extraction points.

The first extraction point was installed through the basement slab near the laundry area. From there, we routed the system into the crawl space, where we created a second extraction point beneath the existing sealed crawl space barrier.

The two collection points were then connected into a single mitigation system. The piping exited through the foundation wall and continued outside, where the radon gas could be safely discharged above the roofline.

The homeowner chose to arrange their own post-mitigation testing, so we don't have their final radon result. However, this project is a good example of why radon mitigation systems should be designed around the construction of each individual home. When multiple foundation types are present, addressing each area can be an important part of creating an effective system.

Depressurization is not the only solution for reducing radon exposure. Sheri reached out to Triangle Radon Defense after purchasing a new home with slightly elevated radon levels that were below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L.

We discussed how radon health risk is associated with radon decay products (radon progeny), which are airborne particles created as radon gas breaks down. These particles can often be reduced through improved air filtration and air quality measures.

After reviewing options, Sheri chose to install the Breathe EZ air cleaner on both of her HVAC systems to improve whole-home air filtration. To further enhance indoor air quality, we also installed Breathe EZ UVC lights in both air handlers to help reduce mold spores, bacteria, and other biological contaminants.

With these systems now in place, Sheri and her family can enjoy improved indoor air quality and greater peace of mind in their new home.

Radon Mitigation in Chapel Hill, NC

Jean recently purchased a beautiful home in Chapel Hill. During the home inspection, elevated radon gas levels were discovered. His realtor contacted Triangle Radon Defense to request a mitigation quote, and we were happy to provide an on-site assessment to evaluate the property and recommend an effective solution.

The home featured a complex foundation, including two encapsulated crawl spaces and a large basement. To address these conditions, we designed a custom mitigation system with three strategically placed suction points to remove radon gas from each area of the foundation.

In addition to performance, Jean was concerned about preserving the visual appearance of his new home. To meet this goal, we integrated all suction points into a single fan system and installed an aesthetic cover for a clean, streamlined look. The result is an effective, visually unobtrusive radon mitigation system that provides Jean and his family with lasting peace of mind.
